Matt Koleszar's Re-Election Website
Web design project working with a cross-functional team in the spring of 2022 at Tech for Campaigns.
The goal
To create a website that will help Matt Koleszar win his re-election campaign
The user
Voting adults in Michigan's 22nd House district: Voters, voluenteers, and doners
The solution
I spearheaded UX/UI vision and strategy, research, and responsive web design for the re-election website, leading to Matt's successful win in Michigan's 22nd House district.
Desktop
Here is the full-size desktop version of the Home page:
I streamlined the navigation, with only the News section requiring secondary navigation. This additional layer becomes accessible via a dropdown menu upon hovering over the News link, ensuring an intuitive browsing experience.
Tablet
I crafted a responsive design tailored for smaller-width screens and tablets. Within this layout, the navigation is condensed into a hamburger menu, maintaining simplicity and preserving screen real estate. Notably, the "Get Involved" button stands prominently to the left of the hamburger menu, consistently accessible. This strategic placement reflects the campaign leaders' recognition of its pivotal role as the most valuable action for site visitors, ensuring its perpetual visibility and clickability.
Mobile
The mobile version closely mirrors the tablet layout, with one key adjustment: certain sections have been reorganized into a vertical stack instead of a horizontal row format. This adaptation optimizes the viewing experience for smaller screens, ensuring content remains easily accessible and legible on mobile devices.
Here's a demonstration of the navigation layout when the user taps on the hamburger menu icon. This approach mirrors the design implemented in the tablet view, ensuring consistency across different devices.
Here's an illustration of how the secondary navigation items unfold when the accordion expands beneath the News section. This intuitive design ensures seamless access to additional navigation options within the specified section.
Conclusion
This was a fun project to work on and the design was fairly straight-forward. It was a wonderful experience collaborating with a talented copywriter, a dedicated project lead, and the skilled developer, Matt, along with his energetic campaign manager. Together, we fused our efforts and brought this website to life a full week earlier than anticipated. And what a fantastic bonus to top it off with a triumphant victory! Congratulations to Matt and the entire team on this well-deserved achievement!
